main index the sound installations topophoniczones |
TopoPhonicZones is the overall name for three separate rooms: Sound Warp, Lost, and Lines Between. Each of them displays a specific atmosphere created by the interaction of composition and lighting design. For every one of the rooms, Sabine Schäfer has developed a special three-dimensional movement of sound. Combined with the lighting designs created by Werner Cee and Hens Breet, these movements define the specific sensual dimensions of each room: they constitute three complex worlds of fleeting acoustic and optical impressions. The visitor assumes the role of an explorer in these worlds, changing events as he changes his own position. If he wants to get to the heart of this exhibition, he cannot do so by playing the part of a passive listener/observer. The three individual rooms were not designed on the basis of a shared concept by the three artists. Instead, Werner Cee and Hens Breet acquainted themselves with the sound installations as they were planned by Sabine Schäfer, and from thereon developed their respective light objects and lighting designs on their own. The result is a constellation of works with the individuality of each single work contributing to an overall credibility. The interaction between imagination and reality is what all three rooms have in common, creating a tension between what is physically present in a room and the different meanings a visitor may attribute to what he perceives.
